Fort Worth Leaky Pipe

As the video clip shows, most water and mold damage to Fort Worth homes starts with a small leak. The example shown is from a water heater, but it could just as easily be from a clothes washer or a kitchen sink. If not caught, the constant leak can eventually cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars in repair and replacement of structural and personal property.

The problem with leaks in a position like this is that no one sees them unless they are looking for them. It is why every homeowner needs to perform annual inspections and why SERVPRO of Northeast Ft. Worth conducts a complete structural inspection when we first arrive on a new job.

Once we find the leak, the first step is to stop the water. Most appliances have a cut-off switch as seen in the video and can easily be accessed. If there is no switch, then it may be necessary for us to turn off the water to your home.

Usually, our technicians can replace the damaged pipe and connections in an hour or two. If the leaky pipe is behind a wall, then it is necessary for us to cut into and remove a section of drywall to get to the problem. To do this, we may also have to move the water heater or other appliance out of the way.

As the pipe is repaired or replaced, other technicians remove any excess water using pumps or extraction wands depending on the amount present. If there is excess moisture in the walls or if the humidity levels are too high, we use air movers and dehumidifiers to draw water from the structure and the surrounding air.

We do this to prevent further water damage and to prevent mold spores from expanding and growing into a threat. If there is already active mold, these same steps force the spores back into a dormant state so we can safely remove it.
